چکیده

term hemodialysis and it is characterized by the accumulation of β2-microglobulin in the osteoarticular structures. In 1984, Kuntz et al. (1) first described destructive spondyloarthropathy in ten patients who received longterm hemodialysis. The lesions in that study were radiographically characterized by severe narrowing of the intervertebral disk and erosions and cysts of the adjacent vertebral plates without osteophytosis. In the axial skeleton, a rapidly progressive destructive spondyloarthropathy may be difficult to distinguish from infectious spondylitis because both conditions have similar radiographic findings (2). Thus, needle biopsy is generally performed to confirm the diagnosis and exclude infectious spondylitis. In this article, we describe the imaging findings of a case of dialysis-related amyloidosis involving the hip and cervical spine in one patient who received longterm dialysis. This case is presented to provide appropriate information about this disease and so help physicians minimize unnecessary biopsy procedures.

Dysphagia Due to Anterior Cervical Spine Osteophyte: A Case Report

Introduction: Degenerative changes of the cervical spine are more common in elderly, but anterior cervical osteophytes that cause problems in swallowing are rare. The most common cause of this problem is DISH disease (diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis). Trauma is also suggested as a potential cause in osteophyte formation. Case Report: We report a rare case of anterior cervical osteop...

Influence of heparin molecular size on the induction of C-terminal unfolding in β2-microglobulin

Dialysis-related amyloidosis (DRA) is characterized by accumulation of amyloid β2-microglobulin (β2m) in the interstitial matrix. Matrix substances such as heparin have reportedly been strongly implicated in the pathogenesis of dialysis-related amyloidosis. In clinical setting of hemodialysis, two types of heparin, i.e., high and low molecular heparin (H.M.H. and L.M.H.) have been routinely use...

Myocardial 99mTc-MDP uptake on the bone scintigraphy in the hemodialysis-associated amyloidosis: A case report [Persian]

Amyloidosis is characterized by an abnormal extracellular deposition of amyloid in different organs, where it usually causes some type of dysfunction. Its cause is unknown. Five different types of amyloidosis have been described according to the underlying disease; immunoglobulin amyloidosis, familial amyloidosis, senile systemic amyloidosis, secondary amyloidosis and hemodialysis-associa...

Diffuse Idiopathic Skeletal Hyperostosis Involving Cervical and Lumbar Spine Presenting with Dysphagia: A Case Report

Introduction: Diffuse Idiopathic Skeletal Hyperostosis (DISH) is a very rare cause of dysphagia when it occurs in the cervical spine. It can also affect the lumbar region where it causes deformity. Case Report: In this article, a rare case of Diffuse Idiopathic Skeletal Hyperostosis involving both the cervical and lumbar spine, presenting with dysphagia and spinal stiffness leading to a stoopin...

Amyloidoma of the temporal bone and upper cervical spine; presentation of a rare clinical entity with a brief literature review.

The amyloidoses comprise a heterogeneous group of diseases characterized by the extracellular deposition of an insoluble protein complex in various tissues. Amyloidomas in bone are most common in patients with systemic amyloidosis and plasma cell dyscrasias. Decreased clearance of beta2 microglobulin frequently causes excessive amyloid deposition in the musculoskeletal system in patients with a...
